TWO TIER FOUNTAIN

Two Tiers Instead of Three, and the Bowls Get Bigger for It

Drop a tier and the same height has to go somewhere. It goes into the bowls. The lower basin on this piece is wide and shallow in a way a three tier fountain at the same height cannot be, because a third bowl would have taken the room.

That width is the reason this one gets used by birds. A wide shallow basin with a flat rim to land on is what a bird bath is, and here you get that at the bottom of a working fountain instead of as a separate object in the garden. The moving water keeps it from going stagnant, which is the usual problem with a still bath.

The carving is the other half. Acanthus relief runs around both rims, down the baluster and across the base, and the lotus finial sits at the top still in bud. A 2 tier fountain with this much surface detail reads as a classical piece from across a lawn and as a carved one up close.

What You Get With This 2 Tier Fountain

  1. 01

    Fewer tiers, bigger bowls.

At 47.2 inches the height that a third bowl would have used goes into width instead, which is why the lower basin is broad enough to be worth looking into.

  2. 02

The lower basin works as a bird bath.

Wide, shallow, flat rimmed and constantly moving. You get the bath without adding a second object to the garden, and moving water does not go stagnant the way a still bath does.

  3. 03

Carved on every surface that shows.

Acanthus relief on both rims, the baluster and the base, with a budding lotus finial on top. Nothing on it is left plain to save cost.

  4. 04

    Shorter cascade, softer sound.

Two falls instead of three, from a lower height, which gives a gentler note than a tall three tier piece. It suits a patio you sit on rather than a lawn you look across.

Where to put it

It reads best where people come close to it, since the carving is half of what you are buying. A patio fountain position works well here, or a courtyard, or the middle of a planting bed near a path. If you want birds to use the lower basin, leave open ground on the approach side so they can see what is coming and keep cover within a short flight. Set it on level solid ground, prefer a prepared pad or paving over bare soil, and decide the position before the tiers go on.

Questions About This 2 Tier Fountain

Can birds actually use the lower bowl
Yes, and the width is why. A wide shallow basin with a flat rim is what birds land on and wade in. The moving water also keeps it fresher than a still bath. Leave open ground on the approach side and cover within a short flight.
Why choose two tiers over three
At the same height, two tiers means wider bowls and a softer sound. Three tiers at 47 inches would give you three small bowls and a busier note. Two gives you one basin worth looking into and a gentler fall.
What does assembly involve
The tiers ship separately and stack on site with nothing to plumb in. Decide the position first, set the base on level solid ground, stack, fill the bowls and plug the pump into a standard outdoor outlet. Two adults, no tools.
What happens in winter
Drain both bowls and the base before the first hard frost, unplug the pump and store it dry indoors. Water freezing in a basin is very nearly the only way a concrete fountain gets damaged. The piece stays where it is under a breathable cover.

Ships free from California or New Jersey, and it is covered for three years.

Still perfect after 3 years

I bought this in 2023. It sits in full Florida sun and has not faded or cracked. The GFRC material is superior to anything at the stores.

Too heavy for one person

2 stars because you really need three people to move the box. I tried to move it with a hand truck and it almost tipped over on me. The product is quality, but the logistics are exhausting.
