LIT SPINNING ORB DESK FOUNTAIN

The Light Is Inside the Orb, and the Orb Turns

Two things happening in one object. The orb is turned by the falling water rather than by a motor, and the light sits inside the orb rather than under it, so what rotates is a lit sphere rather than a dark one passing through a beam. That is a noticeably better effect, because the light turns with the glass and the highlights move.

The flow control sets both the sound and the rotation speed, so you have one dial that takes it from a barely moving glow to a visibly spinning lit sphere.

The cascade behind it is layered light gray slate, deliberately plain, because on a piece this size a busy rock texture would fight the orb. Nine and four fifths inches high on an eight inch square, which is the smallest useful footprint we offer that still has a moving feature in it. Rated for indoor use.

What You Get With This Desk Fountain With Orb

  1. 01

The light is inside the orb.

It turns with the glass rather than shining on it, so the highlights move as the sphere rotates. That is a different effect from a lit base with a dark ball on top.

  2. 02

    Water drives the rotation.

No motor, so nothing extra to fail, and the orb stops when the pump does.

  3. 03

One dial sets sound and spin.

The flow control takes it from a barely moving glow to a visibly turning lit sphere, so you tune both at once.

  4. 04

Plain slate behind it, on purpose.

A busy rock texture would compete with the orb at this size, so the cascade is kept simple and light gray to let the moving part hold your attention.

Where to put it

A desk, a shelf, a bedside table, a reception counter. At under ten inches it is seen at arm reach, so put it where you actually sit. Level is critical on this one, more than on any other piece here, because an orb in a cup will not turn evenly on a tilt and the rotation is the whole reason to own it. A coaster or mat underneath on anything that marks.

Keeping This Desk Fountain With Orb in Good Order

Desk Fountain With Orb upkeep, in three lines

  • Every few days Top up. The water must always cover the pump.
  • Every 2 to 3 weeks Empty, rinse, wipe the pump screen, refill.
  • Before the first frost Drain it completely and bring the pump indoors.
Looking after the finish

Top the basin up every few days, since a piece this small holds very little and the level drops quickly. Lift the orb out when you clean, rinse it ...

  • 3 years Warranty against manufacturing defects
  • 60 days Returns, no restocking fee

Questions About This Desk Fountain With Orb

Where exactly is the light
Inside the glass orb, not underneath it. That means the light turns with the sphere and the highlights move as it rotates, which is a better effect than a lit base with a dark ball sitting on it.
How is it different from your eight inch orb fountain
That one has color changing light in the rock and a crystal textured orb. This one is a little taller at nine and four fifths inches, the slate is plainer, and the light is inside the glass orb itself rather than in the base.
Does the orb need a motor
No, the falling water turns it. It spins when the pump runs and stops when it does not, so there is no mechanism to wear out.
Why does level matter so much
Because an orb sitting in a cup will not turn evenly on a tilt, and the rotation is the whole point of the piece. Check the surface is flat before you fill it rather than after.

Ships free from California or New Jersey, and it is covered for three years.

Peaceful

I absolutely love this fountain! I recently got rid of our fish tank that we had for years. The first night it was gone, the silence drove me crazy. I was so accustomed to hearing the filter and trickling water that I hadn't even noticed till it wasn't there. So, I bought this and the gentle but noticeable sound of the water falling is exactly what I needed. It's calm and relaxing. I was having a bit of water bouncing out/off of the fountain and onto the shelf it was sitting on so I put it on a metal tray and added some rocks and fake succulents. I love the look.

Bigger Than Expected, It's Quiet

I know it says 15.7" but I sort of expected they were 'fudging' that a bit. They're not. This thing's literally almost a foot and a half tall.Functionality: So far, after a week, it still works. The water still flows well, no leaks, good job.Sound: The waterfall sound is barely audible. If you're buying it for the sound, you won't really hear it. I can, at times, hear the motor over the sound of the waterfall. I had to put a towel under mine, not to absorb the water, but to soften the vibration and dampen the motor-noise. Its not terrible but, I didn't buy this to hear a motor, I bought it to hear water. I'm not dinging it a point for that (maybe I should), but it is noteworthy.Visuals: This thing looks really, really nice. It doesn't look 'terribly' cheap and actually has some heft to it. The one thing I don't like is, it has three lights and I am unsure that this will run without them. You need to attach them, the connection is inside the fountain, and they're water-tight connections. I'm not exactly sure what happens if they're not connected, as they need to be screwed in to be water-tight. So, does leaving them unplugged expose the connections to water and cause an issue? I dunno, I don't want to find out, but it means I am forced to have the lights on it, turned on. If this disturbs your sleep, you may want to bear that in mind. This item 'should' have an external on-off switch for the light but it doesn't. Dinging it a point.Overall, not a bad item. Waterfalls & Fountains on Amazon all have pretty bad reviews, this is probably the best of the bunch. Not sure that's saying much. If you can keep the motor quiet, and don't mind lights on it, it's nice, and large enough to feel worth the cost. Adding a point because they made it with heft, it holds a gallon of water and measures to the advertised height. So, 4/5 stars. Worth the money, if the minor issues I listed don't bother you. But better with a sale.
